Yancey marks 40 years

at Fall River Electric Co-op

Trent Yancey was honored last week for his 40 years of service to Fall River Electric Cooperative.

Yancey, a St. Anthony native, first went to work at Fall River as a summer laborer.

“The first day on the job I knew this is what I wanted to do,” he said in a news release.

Over the years he advanced first to an apprentice lineman, then to a journeyman lineman for nearly 30 years, followed by advancements to foreman, staking technician and just over five years ago being promoted to operations manager.

“It has been a great career and it is not over yet,” Yancey said in the release.

Longtime EIRMC executive

retiring after 36 years

After 36 years of service, Lou Fatkin, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center’s executive director of risk management, is retiring.

During his career, which dates back to the days of Idaho Falls Consolidated Hospitals, Fatkin has held positions in Medical Staff Relations and served as the hospital’s ethics and compliance officer.

In November 1979, Idaho Falls had two hospitals, Parkview and Riverview. Fatkin had offices and worked in both facilities. In all, he has been associated with five hospital management companies, including Intermountain Healthcare, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), HealthTrust, Columbia and again HCA.

“Doctors, employees, patients, families … everyone trusted Lou as a guy you can really talk to,” said Cindy Smith-Putnam, a former EIRMC colleague. “And he loved the hospital. The throb of the days, no two ever alike. Several times, we laughed so hard we cried. There will be a gaping hole at EIRMC when he cycles, skis or runs off into his retirement.”

Fatkin said he feels grateful for his career.

“Over the years, I have been fortunate to have worked with a number of hospital administrations,” he said. “In all, I will miss the whole EIRMC staff, who I consider my family.”

Catholic Charities of Idaho

names Meyers to regional post

Douglas Alles, Catholic Charities of Idaho’s Executive Director, announced the hiring of Richard Meyers to fill the role of regional director of the agency’s eastern Idaho services from a Family Strengthening Center located in Idaho Falls.

Meyers, a North Dakota native, is a licensed professional counselor who has maintained a private counseling practice in Idaho Falls for more than 20 years.

The agency will rely on identified service gaps to develop and implement professional social service programs. The expansion of the Eastern Idaho Family Strengthening Center was made possible through an anonymous gift in memory of Angela Magnani-Wood.

Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce names new CEO

Ted Austin has been selected as the CEO of the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Austin, a longtime resident of Rexburg, will officially begin leading the Chamber on Tuesday, a Chamber news release said. He replaces Donna Benfield, who has served as CEO of the Chamber for 20 years.

Geoffrey Thomas, Chamber president, made the announcement at the Jan. 12 monthly Chamber Board Meeting.

“After reviewing and meeting with a deep and talented pool of applicants over the last several months, the executive board made a unanimous decision to hire Ted,” Thomas said in the release. “He is clearly qualified and enthusiastic about leading the Chamber as it benefits our growing business community far into the future.”

Austin served as president of the Chamber of Commerce in 2011. He most recently has been the communications manager for Fall River Rural Electric Cooperative based in Ashton and also served as the marketing and advertising manager for subsidiary Fall River Propane. He has held management positions at Melaleuca, ML Technologies, and Diet Center. He also has been extensively involved in local broadcasting, having owned and operated Q102-KCHQ FM radio in Rexburg, which he sold to Rich Broadcasting in 2011.

Germann selected

as public affairs officer

Superintendent David Vela has selected Denise Germann to serve as the next public affairs officer for Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway.

The hiring was announced in a park news release.

Germann will be responsible for dissemination of park news and information to the public, relationships with the media and public communication on a wide range of complex and often controversial issues. Germann starts her duties at Grand Teton on Feb. 22.

Germann has 28 years of experience working for the National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service. She currently serves as management assistant for Glacier National Park in Montana, where she is responsible for public affairs, lands and Freedom of Information Act requests. Her previous experience also includes public affairs officer on the Flathead National Forest in Montana, supervisory chief ranger at Homestead National Monument in Nebraska and public affairs officer on the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests in Colorado and Wyoming.

Germann will serve as part of the Grand Teton National Park Management Team.

Germann will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Jackie Skaggs in August 2015. Assistant public affairs officer Andrew White will continue to serve as acting public affairs officer until Germann’s arrival.

Perttula completes clinical

scholars research training

Dr. Eric Perttula, MD, recently graduated from the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program at Harvard Medical School.

The program trains physicians in the methods used to conduct of clinical research. Perttula, in a news release, said one of the highlightswas collaborating with physicians throughout the world. More than 80 countries were represented in Perttula’s graduating class.

Perttula’s capstone proposal “Acupuncture for PTSD in Military Veterans” was selected for commendation by the Harvard GCSRT faculty, the release said.

Perttula trained in medical acupuncture at the UCLA School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School, and has been helping patients through acupuncture in Idaho Falls for 10 years, the release said.

Moser is D. L. Evans Bank

regional employee of the year

Raegan Moser, operations supervisor at the Ammon branch of D. L. Evans Bank, has been named the company’s 2015 regional employees of the year for the Wood River/Eastern Idaho region.

Regional employees of the year “exemplify commitment to success, contribute to business development, volunteer in their communities and have exceptional overall performance,” a bank news release said.

Moser also was recognized for five years of service to the bank.

Wendy Parkinson, cash management business development officer for the eastern Idaho area, also was recognized for five years of service to the bank.

Christensen joins Zions Bank’s

commercial lending team

Aaron Christensen has been named commercial relationship manager for Zions Bank, a bank news release said.

As commercial relationship manager, Christensen is responsible for developing and maintaining banking relationships with business customers. He is based at the Idaho Falls Downtown Financial Center at 1245 S. Utah Ave.

Christensen joined Zions Bank in 2004 as manager of the Ammon Financial Center. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness and an MBA from Utah State University, the release said.

Allen named ITD’s division administrator/chief engineer

Kimbol Allen, who has served the transportation community in southern and eastern Idaho the past 17 years, has been named administrator of the Division of Engineering Plans and Products/Chief Engineer for the Idaho Transportation Department, a department news release said.

Transportation Department Chief Operations Officer Jim Carpenter announced the selection of Allen, the District 6 engineer in eastern Idaho since 2014. Allen will assume leadership of Transportation Department planning and products Feb. 29, the release said.

Allen will oversee five sections: Office of Highway Safety, Bridge, Right of Way, Central Labs and Mobility Services. He also will administer claims and appeals, and represent the Transportation Department on national transportation boards. In his new role, he will be a member of ITD’s senior leadership team and will report to Carpenter.

During his 18-month tenure as district (head) engineer of District 6, which is headquartered in Rigby, Allen reorganized the district to meet the Transportation Department’s structural and operational vision for 2020. He also improved district functions and reporting relationships.

Allen began his career at the Transportation Department in 1999 as an engineer-in-training in Shoshone — the same year he earned his civil engineering degree from Utah State University. He served in various construction and maintenance positions, including operations engineer in District 4 (south-central Idaho), until his appointment as District 6 engineer.

Under his leadership, Districts 4 and 6 improved relationships with stakeholders while delivering projects and services on time and within established budgets, the release said.

Allen will continue as the District 6 engineer while transitioning to his new duties at ITD Headquarters in Boise. ITD will begin the selection process for a new District 6 engineer soon.

Alliance Title & Escrow Corp. announces promotions

Alliance Title & Escrow Corp., a statewide leader in title, escrow and information services, has announced the promotions of two eastern Idaho employees, a company news release said.

Alison Banta recently accepted a vice president and branch manager position in Rexburg.

Banta has been serving as an assistant vice president. Banta is a native Idahoan and attended Ricks College. She joined Alliance Title & Escrow in April 1994 as an administrative assistant. During her career with Alliance Title & Escrow Banta has held positions as the long term escrow officer and escrow officer. She accepted the management position in 2013. Banta has more than 21 years in the title and escrow industry.

Emily Geisler was promoted to vice president and branch manager in Rigby. Geisler has been serving in a similar role as an assistant vice president. Geisler attended New Mexico State University, where she completed business and accounting courses. She is also on the National EMT Registry and served in the armed forces.

Geisler joined Alliance Title in 2002 and was quickly promoted through the ranks. She accepted the management position in 2007. Geisler has more than 13 years in the title and escrow industry.

Eastern Idaho State Fair manager to lead regional association

The Rocky Mountain Association of Fairs (RMAF) wrapped up 2015 by appointing new members to the board of directors and electing new officers to serve in 2016.

Brandon Bird, general manager of the Eastern Idaho State Fair from Blackfoot, will serve as president of the organization for the upcoming year, an association news release said.

“It is an honor to serve as the 2016 RMAF President,” Bird said in the release. “Our organization has some of the best individuals serving the fair business, making RMAF one of the best regional fair associations in the country.”

Bird has served on the board of directors representing the Southwest District since 2011, the release said.

The association’s primary objective is to “promote the prosperity of fairs through educational activities, training programs and legislative advocacy,” the release said. In its 91st year, the association’s membership represents 109 fairs in the 11-state Rocky Mountain region and Canadian providences.

Cook named manager of Zions Bank’s Ammon financial center

Cameron Cook has been named manager of Zions Bank’s Ammon financial center, responsible for business development, customer service, community outreach and overall management of the financial center and its staff, a bank news release said.

Cook joined Zions Bank in 2009 and has held various positions in financial center management throughout Utah and Idaho, including assistant manager of the Idaho Falls Downtown financial center since 2013. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, the release said.

Thornberry joins Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership

The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership has hired several new field staff in the region and is opening a Western office in Missoula, Mont.

The organization has done more than a decade of conservation work and advocacy on behalf of sportsmen in the western U.S., according to a partnership news release.

In addition to its new regional headquarters, the partnership has hired Rob Thornberry as its Idaho field representative, based in Idaho Falls. Thornberry is the Post Register’s former managing editor. He spent more than two decades reporting on outdoor issues for the paper.

Coby Tigert, who served as Idaho field representative and a regional field manager in his three years with the organization, has been named deputy director of Western lands, the release said.

The organization is dedicated to improving fish and wildlife habitat, protecting and expanding public access to hunting and fishing, and conserving the outdoor resources that power businesses and communities in the Western states, the release said.

Auditorium district announces new board member

The Idaho Falls Auditorium District has announced Mike Lehto as a new member of its board of directors.

Lehto, a former Idaho Falls City Councilman who spent 16 years on the council, is employed by Idaho National Laboratory as a nuclear engineer. Lehto was nominated at the Feb. 10 board meeting and, after a unanimous vote of the board of directors, was sworn in at that time.

Lehto will fill the position previously held by Bob Everhart.

“We are extremely pleased that Mike has agreed to join in our effort to construct the Idaho Falls Events Center,” Board Chairman Cindy Ozaki said in a news release. “His experience in government, combined with his enthusiasm for the project as well as his overall standing in the community, make him an excellent addition to the board of directors.”

Two promoted at dispatch center

The Idaho Falls Police Department announced the promotions of Andrea “Andi” Anderson to communications center manager and Cheryl Anderson to dispatch supervisor at the Idaho Falls and Bonneville 911 Dispatch Center.

They were officially honored and promoted during a ceremony held at the IFPD Training Annex on Thursday morning, a department news release said.

Andi Anderson started her career with the Idaho Falls Police Department as a dispatcher in 1978.

Originally, she had no intentions to stay longer than five years.

“I didn’t mean to stay here that long,” Andi Anderson said in the release. “Fortunately, I found my niche. I love my work. Not many people can say that after 38 years.”

As the center manager, Andi Anderson will oversee the overall center operations, including staffing, training and dispatch protocol.

Cheryl Anderson was hired by the IFPD in 2014. She came to the department with 16 years of emergency dispatch experience, having worked previously at the Salt Lake City 911 Center.

Cheryl Anderson officially begins her supervisor duties Sunday.

Councilman joins power association’s council

Idaho Falls City Councilman David Smith was named to a one-year term on the American Public Power Association’s Policy Makers Council by the organization’s board of directors.

The association represents 2,000 community-owned electric utilities serving more than 48 million people or 14 percent of the nation’s electricity consumers, a city of Idaho Falls news release said.

The Policy Makers Council assists the association in promoting federal legislation that is important to public power systems, such as Idaho Falls Power, as well as opposing harmful legislation, the release said. It also provides advice on other issues of importance to the association. Members of the council meet a minimum of twice a year and participate in meetings with elected representative and congressional staff for the purpose of supporting the association’s national legislative agenda.

The council is made up of 40 members who serve on either utility boards or are elected officials in public power communities, the release said. Idaho Falls is the largest of the nine municipal power systems in Idaho.

Smith also serves as the City Council liaison for Idaho Falls Power.

The Hampton by Hilton Idaho Falls/Airport has announced its sales team leadership.

Patti Thomas moved to Hampton by Hilton Idaho Falls/Airport in January as its sales manager.

Sara Shipley was promoted as director of sales and assistant general manager, also in January.

Minzghor named ITD’s new District 6 engineer

Jason B. Minzghor will assume leadership of District 6 for the Idaho Transportation Department as the new District 6 engineer.

Minzghor has been the District 1 operations manager in Coeur d’Alene since 2013 and had served the transportation community in northern Idaho for nearly 17 years, a Transportation Department news release said. He starts with the department’s eastern Idaho region March 21.

Minzghor succeeds Kimbol Allen, who in January was named administrator of the Division of Engineering Plans and Products/Chief Engineer for ITD.

Minzghor will supervise 138 employees in Bonneville, Butte, Clark, Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison and Teton counties, overseeing design, construction and maintenance of the state highway system of more than 2,300 lane miles and 350 bridges in eastern Idaho, the release said.

Minzghor, 41, earned his engineering degree from the University of Idaho in 1997. He started his career with ITD in 1999. He has held management positions in project development, construction and maintenance operations at ITD’s District 1 office.

New Lost River District ranger selected

Allison Jackson has been named the new ranger for the Lost River District.

Jackson’s appointment was announced in a U.S. Forest Service news release.

Jackson has served in Forest Service Regions 1, 3, 4, 5 and 10 in a variety of positions, the release said. Her natural resource responsibilities have stretched across vast landscapes within the Selway Bitterroot, Frank Church - River of No Return, Absaroka-Beartooth, Ansel Adams and John Muir wildernesses among others.

“Allison has a variety of experiences in natural resource management across six western states, which is a great fit for the issues, resources, and communities of the Lost River Ranger District,” said Chuck Mark, forest supervisor of the Salmon-Challis National Forest, in the release.

News IFPD officer sworn in

The Idaho Falls Police Department has announced the addition of officer Drew Taylor.

Taylor was sworn in Feb. 23 by Mayor Rebecca Casper, a police department news release said.

Taylor, a California native, has aspired to work in law enforcement for a number of years.

“It feels like I hit the lottery,” Taylor said in the release. “I’m at the start of something that is going to be great, rewarding and challenging. It’s a good path for me and my family.”

Taylor has experience as an emergency responder having been an on‐call firefighter in Madison County.

He earned his associate degree in business from Brigham Young University‐Idaho and is working toward his bachelor’s degree, the release said.

INL’s Calley recognized as

‘Outstanding Engineer of the Year’

Idaho State University has recognized alumnus Mike Calley with its “Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award.”

This is the 21st award given by the ISU engineering programs, a university news release said. Calley was honored at the Engineering Week banquet in February, held under the auspices of the Eastern Idaho Engineering Council.

Calley received his Bachelor of Science in engineering from ISU in 1989. He received his Master of Science in 1991 in nuclear science and engineering from ISU, with his thesis focusing on probabilistic risk assessment for nuclear systems.

After graduating, Calley joined Idaho National Laboratory, where he continued to focus on probabilistic risk assessment, safety evaluations and hazard assessments.

Calley is now the lab’s department manager for Risk Assessment and Management Services. This is the largest group of reliability and risk management groups among all of the laboratories operated by the U.S. Department of Energy, the release said. He has 27 years of experience in the field of risk assessment and safety evaluations.

Calley received the 2008 Professional Achievement Award from the ISU College of Engineering, and currently serves as the president of the ISU Engineering Advisory Council.

Martindale-Hubbell has awarded Moffatt Thomas attorney David P. Gardner the prestigious AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating in Commercial Law and Workers Compensation, a Moffatt Thomas news release said.

Gardner is an experienced trial lawyer and a partner with Moffatt Thomas. His practice includes the areas of insurance defense, workers compensation, commercial litigation and health care law, the release said.

Gardner’s professional activities include serving as chairman for the Idaho State Bar Worker’s Compensation Section, past president of the Sixth District Bar Association, Idaho state representative for DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar, past state chairman for the CLM Alliance – Claims and Litigation Management Alliance and member of the Access to Justice Leadership Committee of the Idaho State Bar.

These peers are asked to rate the attorney in five key areas of legal ability: legal knowledge, analytical capabilities, judgment, communication ability and legal experience.

Winters is a Washington state native but has lived in Idaho for the last seven years, the release said. He has held several positions in the banking industry including personal banker and branch manager positions.

Peterson celebrates 30 years

Dave Peterson, Fall River Electric Cooperative’s manager of engineering, recently was recognized for 30 years of service to the cooperative.

Peterson began his Fall River career in 1985 as a meter tech but was promoted within six months to assistant engineer and became the co-op’s staff engineer in 2000, a co-op news release said. He was promoted to his current position in 2008. Peterson graduated Montana State University with an electrical engineering degree and joined Fall River right after college, the release said.

Captain’s commendations

given to IFPD officers

The Idaho Falls Police Department has recognized 11 officers and the department’s crime analyst with Captain’s Commendations for “their excellent police work” in investigating recent armed robberies, a department news release said.

Detectives Patrick McKenna and Joshua Deede, officers Jeanette Johnson, Chris Hendry, Dustin Cook, Jonathan Baird and Chris Reed, and crime analyst Amy Hinson received awards in early March for their work on separate armed robberies which occurred at a Subway restaurant on Channing Way on Jan. 23 and at a parking lot in the 1400 block of East 17th Street on Jan. 24.

Additionally, four officers were honored with Captain’s Commendations for their “outstanding response” leading to the arrest of two teens involved in robbing the Stinker Store Station in the early morning hours of Feb. 29, the release said.

Sgt. Jeremy Galbreaith and officers Tyler Howard, Daniel Godfrey and Kyle Christopherson were honored Thursday.

Citizens Community Bank has announced a pair of staffing changes.

Julie Staker has joined the Taylor Crossing branch as its customer service manager, a bank news release said. She has been in banking for 26 years in a variety of positions.

Bridget Corcoran has been promoted to customer service manager at the bank’s Ammon branch, the news release said. She has been with the bank for eight years. She started as head teller in Rexburg and also has been a loan assistant and new accounts representative.

Burnham named IT director at casino, hotel

Randy Burnham is the new IT director for the Fort Hall Casino and Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Event Center.

Burnham comes to Fort Hall Casino from the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians and Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville, Ore., where he worked as the IT operations and infrastructure manager, a Shoshone-Bannock Tribes news release said.

Prior to casino operations, Burnham managed at Rio Networks, a large Internet service provider based in Roseburg, Ore. Burnham is a graduate of Oregon State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in managing information systems. In 2012, Randy graduated from Southern Oregon University with a master’s degree in management.

IFPD officers sworn in

The Idaho Falls Police Department announced the addition of officers Corey Sato, Zachary Keating and Eric Lyke to the city’s police force.

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper officially swore in the officers during a ceremony held at the Idaho Falls Council Chambers on Thursday afternoon, a department news release said.

Sato, a Pocatello native, spent the last 15 years serving in the United States Army Reserves as a heavy-wheel vehicle mechanic. During his military service, he was deployed for 15 months to Iraq.

Keating, an Idaho Falls native, served five years in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, Keating enrolled in the Idaho State University law enforcement program, where he graduates in May.

Lyke, a Boise native, has always been compelled to pursue a civil service career, the release said. He started out as a firefighter and enjoyed it, but said he found law enforcement appealed to him more. He began his law enforcement career seven years ago as a detention officer at the Bonneville County Jail.

In other department news, officers Stetson Belnap and Anthony Cox have completed the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training. They graduated with class No. 185 at the POST Academy in Meridian on March 11.

Both Belnap and Cox were sworn in as police officers on Sept. 9.

Belnap is a 2008 Bonneville High School graduate. Cox is a 2002 Bonneville High School graduate.

Chukars announce new

radio broadcaster for 2016

The Idaho Falls Chukars have announced Andrew Haynes will join John Balginy in the booth for all Chukars’ home games. He also will handle broadcasting duties when the minor league baseball team is on the road.

Haynes, who was born and raised in Fresno, Calif., graduated from Fresno State in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and journalism. Haynes returned to his alma mater in 2012, and since then he has served as a broadcaster for Fresno State’s flagship radio station, as well as various high school sports around the area, a Chukars’ news release said. In 2010, Haynes was a media relations intern and broadcaster for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League.

All Chukars’ games will be broadcast on ESPN 980 AM, 105.1 FM and 94.5 FM (Pocatello), and online at ifchukars.com, the release said.

Cook joins Post Register sales staff

Randa Cook has joined the Post Register as an advertising sales representative. Prior to the Post Register, Cook worked at Idaho Central Credit Union, assisting both consumer and business clients.

“She is particularly familiar with digital advertising solutions and looks forward to assisting her clients in developing effective advertising campaigns,” said Donna Nims, the Post Register’s retail advertising manager, in a news release.

Attorney is Mayors’ Business Day panelist

Lee Radford, managing partner of the Moffatt Thomas Idaho Falls office, will be a panelist on the topic “#TalentPipeline. Find it. Feed it. Keep it” at the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce’s annual Mayors’ Business Day today.

The event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Keefer’s Island Convention Center, 780 Lindsay Blvd. Discussion topics will include innovative workplaces and cultures and the effects of current workplace realities on new commercial developments in Idaho.

Radford is a partner with Moffatt Thomas. His practice is focused on helping businesses succeed and prosper in Idaho’s legal environment, a firm news release said. He also is focused on helping companies “choose Idaho as the best place to locate new operations and facilities,” the release said.

Radford has extensive experience with Idaho urban renewal laws and tax increment financing. He often is involved with local municipalities and counties in bringing new business, the release said. He has been a member of the Idaho Falls Redevelopment Agency since 2002, and its chairman since 2013. In addition, he has served on the executive board of Grow Idaho Falls, now the Regional Economic Development Corporation for Eastern Idaho (REDI).
